You just got a new pool table, don't be struggling to assemble it when you could be trying it out for game night.

If you bought a new pool table, the cost of installation was probably included in the price. But what if you want to save money, and now you have to learn pool table assembly on the fly? Don't worry. We've put together a list of tips to help you set it up in no time. Keep in mind that this is just advice -- refer to the instructions of your pool table for a step-by-step guide. Read on for five tips for easy pool table assembly.

 1. Don't Underestimate Its Weight
Good tables have very thick, dense frames. This makes them difficult to lift and transport. Before you move on to any other stages of assembly, make sure that you have a friend help you move the frame if necessary. Also keep in mind that the larger the frame, the more difficult it will be to navigate around corners or fit it through doorways. Whatever you do, lift with your legs -- you don't want to pull a muscle in your back.
2. Position Your Table CorrectlyThe last thing you want to do is go through all of the work of pool table assembly, and then realize that you don't have enough space to play. You don't want to be pressed up against the wall without enough room to make a shot. A good rule of thumb is to make sure your pool table is at least five feet (60 inches) away from any walls.

3. Adjust the Slate Depending on the table, you could have a one-piece or a three-piece slate. If you have a three-piece slate, good news! These are much better for level playing. During installation, put the middle piece on the frame first. (The end pieces will have holes for pockets if you're not sure which is which.)Placing the middle piece first lets you see what you're doing and ensures everything is even. Which brings us to...

4. Make Sure Your Table Is Level your table isn't level, it's going to affect your play. Sometimes, the problem comes from the legs being uneven. But if you've checked that and still have problems, using a carpenter's level to see what the issue is. You can also use simpler methods to discover the problem -- for example, roll a cue ball straight and see if it veers left or right.
5. Re-stretch The FeltIf you need to recover the table, go for it! Just be sure you're handy with tools. Remember that the smooth side faces up and the fuzzy side should be on the bottom.  Stretch the felt over the slate and secure it with four staples in each corner. Make sure that the felt is stretched as tightly as possible so that you don't have any air bubbles that could mess up play. And don't forget to cut holes for the pockets!
